Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all

- Helen Keller.

Today’s children and youth crave for outdoor entertainment, games etc. They are missing the joys of yesteryears – making paper boats and setting them asail in the rainwaters, going fishing in the village ponds, observing a chrysalis convert to a beautiful butterfly in the backyard, conventional games et al – experiences that stood us in good stead. Today, everything is just a click or a call away – transport, food, doctor, medicine, ration, consumer goods etc etc. making the children and youth couch potatoes. This undeniably has an effect in the quality of life they lead. Added to this is the hustle and bustle of city life where everything is fast paced and stressful. In the present scenario of a highly competitive, materialistic, information and tech driven world coupled with peer pressure on children to excel academically has taken a huge toll on the quality of life led by youngsters and adults alike. Our youth have no means to self-explore, know their own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and limitations. It is here that the outdoors and adventure come into play. It is important that adventure and allied activities are propagated among the youth at grassroot levels so as to expose them to its thrills and beauty of nature. Above all they would learn that material world is not all and that there is this other world - the outdoors, the nature, the wilderness to soak in.

Outdoors present the best arena for the individual to assess his / her own capabilities and limitations. It is an unbounded arena to observe and learn.

Outdoors is a good stress buster. This has become a necessity, for, stress, driven by cutthroat competition, space and time constraints etc. have become a part of day to day life

Outdoors teach the virtues of team work , educate on the evils of deforestation and quarrying, imbibe the attitude of give and take and encourage learning through observation, curiosity and creativity. For the serious pursuers, adventure becomes a healthy addiction once rapport with nature is established.

Outdoors and adventure play an important role in moulding a child’s character. A good adventurer and a nature lover automatically becomes a good human being and a good human being automatically becomes a good citizen. Thus spreading outdoor activities would benefit the society at large. As it is said man becomes more than a man when away from civilization

The remoteness, the andrenaline rush, and man’s will to survive give wings to bring out the best in us.

Outdoors and adventure help in exploring onself, test their strengths, evaluate their weaknesses and trigger calculated instinctive response.
